Biochar before plantation

Traditionally some of the farmers in parts of India had been burning the biomass residue from the fields collected into the pit dug for plantation. But burning the biomass in the pit, there is more chance for formation of charcoal and also the biochar and ash remains within the pit. This procedure benefits the saplings / plants planted.
